RADCLIFFE CRICKET CLUB Won By 58 Runs

Match report Comth The Hour Cometh The Man!!

Turning up at Milnrow on the back on the first 10 point victory for the 2nd XI in quite a while was always going to be a test of character for the boys from the Racecourse as they looked to once again impress the league with their early season billing as genuine championship contenders!

Once again Radcliffe fielded a very strong team with Ste Dalton and Stuart Hart returning to bolster the bowling attack and Chris Murray and Paul Halliwell made way.

Saj once again won the toss and the general consensus was to bat first on what seemed a good batting track.
He may have regretted that decision a few overs in as Radcliffe's top 3 of Farley,Franklin and Smalley all failed without really troubling the scorers. it was up to Tom Barling (32)and Gareth Wolstencroft (12) to batten down the hatches and dig in to get RCC up to a defendable total. Radcliffe had limped to 136 for 6 when Ste Dalton was accompanied at the wicket by skipper Saj.
Would Radcliffe be left up creek without a paddle? or would the skipper drag his troops through to 50 overs and a match winning total?

The skipper didnt disappoint nudging singles with Dolly and accumulating runs at about 4 an over and rotating the strike.

When Dalton fell for 41 Radcliffe had gone from a small total by their standards to a total that they could defend and defend well.

Saj brought up his 50 with a few overs to spare and then proceeded to unleash including by all accounts a very large straight six over the bowlers head in the final over ending up on 69 not out. Paul Smith also chipped in with 6 not out. Radcliffe had put themselves in a commanding position with 218 on the board!

In reply Milnrow where always going to be a threat but 2nd XI Self proclaimed pro Paul Smith bowled a good line and length to remove the opener for 0 but just like with Radcliffe's innings it was going to be easy to dislodge the batsmen once they were set. Yeates(32),Wilman(18), Smith (29) and Fraser (29) made Radcliffe work hard for the wickets and if one of them had stuck around then they would of been more in with a shout of victory. The tail didnt wag and from number 6 down only one batsmen made double figures as Radcliffe bowled Milnrow all out for 160 off 41.1 overs.

Another 5 point victory for Radcliffe and on an even better plus point Matthew Smalley put last weeks bowling performance behind him to pick up 3 for 35 off 10 overs.
